Travelling with your Pet
You may find you need to travel a long distance with your pet, wither within Ireland or abroad. Whatever the circumstances, we are able to offer help and advice about the mode of travel, whether any special precautions are required (for example, if your pet is ill or on medication, or is a very nervous traveler) and also regarding any necessary micro-chipping, blood tests, vaccinations and certification if you are traveling abroad.
For pets traveling abroad, there are numerous factors to be taken into consideration and the situation can be complex, depending on which country or countries you are traveling to and possibly returning from.
Our veterinary surgeons can advise you, and are able to help with rabies vaccinations, blood testing and also can issue pet passports and perform any health check examinations which you may need.
It is important for you to obtain the most accurate up-to-date information about what you require in order to export or travel with your pet to your chosen destination. We recommend that you contact the Department of Agriculture on 01 607 2000 or visit their website at

and follow the links to obtain the information you require.
