shaneShane Guerin

Shane is a Diplomate of the European College of
Veterinary Surgeons and he qualified from UCD in 1986. After six years in private practice, Shane completed a small animal surgical residency at Massey University in New Zealand. This was followed by a further three years as clinical lecturer in UCD.  He began a Diplomate in 2000.  Shane became a partner in the practice in 1999 and he specializes in Veterinary Surgery with a special interest in orthopaedic and spinal surgery.

 

 

lisaLisa McAuliffe

V.N BSc BVSc CertVOphthal MRCVS

Lisa qualified from the University of Liverpool and went straight into small animal practice on the Wirral.  She developed an interest in ocular diseases and has completed the RCVS Certificate in Ophthalmology.  Lisa joined Gilabbey in 2008 and sees both first opinion and referral ophthalmic cases.  She has a particular interest in intraocular surgery, particularly cataract surgery.

Emma graduated from UCD in 1996 and went on to complete An internship in small animal medicine before entering practice. She then went onto study for her certificate in veterinary radiology and a Masters degree at the same time as a European Diploma. Emma continued at the University lecturing in Diagnostic Imaging. Emma has presented at several conferences and was also the ‘Pet Vet’ for the well known Den TV show on RTE 2.

 

JacquesJacques Penderis

Jacques  Penderis graduated from the University of Pretoria (Onderstepoort) in 1993.  Jacques is Senior Lecturer in Veterinary Neurology at Glasgow University Veterinary School, having previously completed a Residency in neurology and Masters Degree on Feline Spongiform Encephalopathy at Glasgow.  He obtained his PhD from the University of Cambridge on CNS remyelination in 2003.  Previously Jacques worked at the Animal Health Trust as clinical neurologist, head of the Neurology/Neurosurgery Unit and latterly as senior research neurologist.  He received the John Presthus prize from the ECVN in 1998.  Jacques clinical and research interests include neurosurgery, spinal cord injury, genetic diseases and neuro-ophthalmology.

Gary  is one of the most eminent orthopaedic surgeons in the UK.  Gary is one the very few vets in the UK to hold two RCVS Diplomas (the highest RCVS qualification) in both orthopaedics and radiology and was made a Fellow of the RCVS in 2008. Gary is a scrutineer for both the BVA hip and elbow dysplasia schemes. Gary regularly visits Gilabbey Veterinary Hospital to perform Hip Replacement Assessments and Surgeries.

MVB DVC MRCVS

Mike Martin holds the Diploma in Veterinary Cardiology and is an RCVS Specialist in Veterinary Cardiology. He runs his own specialist referral practice, the Veterinary Cardiorespiratory Centre, in Kenilworth, Warwickshire. orlaOrla Doherty

MVB MSc

Orla qualified from UCD in 1992 and completed her Masters degree in animal behaviour and welfare at Edinburgh University in ’93.  After a further year carrying out research into animal behaviour and welfare she set up the Animal Behaviour Clinic, a referral behaviour clinic. 

She also lectures with UCD and UL on behaviour and behaviour problems of both small animals and horses.  Orla holds clinics in Dublin, Cork and Donegal on a regular basis, and gives educational talks on the subject of behaviour, the treatment of behaviour problems throughout the country. She is in the early stages of a PhD in the area of equine behaviour problems.

 

tomTom Conway

MVB MRCVS

Tom qualified in 1993.  He went to England where he worked in mixed practice in North Wales and then in small animal practice in Birmingham. Having been a student at Gilabbey, he returned to Gilabbey in 1996, where he became a partner in 2001. Tom’s interests are wide and varied but he has a special interest in dermatology.  He has completed workshops in Ireland and England and distance learning courses with Sidney University.  Tom has also a special interest in oncology and chemotherapy and also loves a bit of surgery.
