Respiratory Medicine & Surgery
The first port of call if your pet gets ill is always your usual vet. However, heart and lung disease is a complex area of veterinary medicine, one which may require specialist knowledge and experience for successful diagnosis and treatment.
If you are unfortunate enough to have a pet diagnosed with heart or lung problems, you might like to ask your vet to refer your pet to the centre. If you do, you can rest assured that they'll be in expert hands.
We have a visiting Specialist in Cardio-Respiratory Medicine and Surgery and Mike is interested in the investigation and management of heart murmurs, dyspnoea, coughing, arrhythmias, episodic weakness/collapse, congestive heart failure, nasal disorders. The equipment and techniques available at Gilabbey include radiography, fluoroscopy, echocardiography (including colour flow Doppler), electrocardiography, Holter monitoring, blood pressure monitoring, rhinoscopy, broncoscopy (BAL), FNAB.
Surgical procedures performed include correction of upper airway obstruction (nares, palate, laryngeal paralysis), thoracotomy, lobectomy, diaphragmatic hernia repair, chest drain placement, pericardiocentesis, pericardectomy, patent ductus arteriosus and persistent right aortic arch.
